Art is about expanding the mind and pushing the limits. Stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing new challenges. My name is Jim O’Connor. I am a photographer, digital artist, and writer. I often do visual themes based on my poetry. Dominant themes are those of a dark and sombre nature, the beauty and sensuality in decay and abandonment, but I do not limit myself to those themes.
I believe that time cannot eradicate beauty, but only morph it into another form. Different, but no less beautiful. This is what draws me to abandoned and forgotten places. Oxidized metal, ivy covered walls, layers of peeling paint. It’s a beauty created by time and the elements. Hard and twisted, but no less beautiful than when it was new. Perhaps, even more so. My other passion is working with alternative models. To me, beauty and sensuality are more striking in unusual forms. I love dark themes and sombre settings. I love juxtaposing the young and vibrant with the weathered and broken. There is a wonderful aesthetic created when these elements coalesce.
